Goodman vs. Trane vs. Bosch Heat Pump: Installed Price in Arizona (2026)

What a Goodman, Trane, American Standard, Bosch, Rheem or Lennox heat pump costs installed in the Phoenix area in 2026, by tier, what you get for the extra money, and why the installer matters more than the badge.

Brand searches like "Trane heat pump," "Goodman 5 ton," "Bosch heat pump" and "Trane XR16 price" are where a lot of homeowners start. Fair enough: the badge is on the box. But the installed price is mostly set by tier (single-stage, two-stage, variable-speed) and installer, not brand.

We install both American Standard (our authorized line) and Goodman, so we see both ends of this every week. These are market ranges for the Phoenix area and Scottsdale to the East Valley, not our price list. Our number is a written quote after we've measured the house.

Installed price by brand and tier (3 to 3.5 ton split heat pump)

Goodman / Amana, single-stage 14.3 to 15.2 SEER2$7,000 to $9,500Value tier
Rheem / Ruud, single-stage$7,500 to $10,500Value to mid
Trane / American Standard, single-stage (XR14/XR16, Silver/Gold)$8,500 to $12,000Premium build, same parent company
Lennox, single-stage$8,500 to $12,500Premium, dealer-network pricing
Bosch inverter (IDS series)$10,000 to $14,000Variable-speed only, fewer local dealers
Trane / American Standard variable-speed (XV, Platinum)$12,000 to $17,000Top tier

Add roughly $500 to $1,000 per extra half ton, and $500 to $1,000 for a rooftop package version. See the cost by size guide for every tonnage.

Trane and American Standard are the same equipment

Both are Trane Technologies brands, built in the same plants with the same compressors and coils. The Trane XR16 and the American Standard Gold 16 are close siblings. The difference is the dealer network and pricing, not the machine. If you've been quoted a Trane, ask for the American Standard equivalent too.

Goodman: the value pick

Goodman (owned by Daikin) is the most common value brand in the Valley. Simpler parts, widely stocked, cheaper repairs. A 10-year registered parts warranty on most models, if it's registered on time. It makes sense for rentals, a house you'll sell in a few years, or when budget is the main driver. More in American Standard vs. Goodman.

Bosch: inverter-first

Bosch's IDS heat pumps are variable-speed (inverter) systems, which is why they price above single-stage value units and below the top Trane tier. Strengths: quiet, efficient at part load, and they qualify for SRP's top Cool Cash tier at $225 per ton. Trade-offs in the Valley: fewer installing dealers, so parts and service can take longer, and inverter boards are a more expensive repair than a single-stage contactor. Pick Bosch for the installer who knows it, not just the brand.

What the extra money buys

  • Staging. Two-stage and variable-speed systems run on low most of the year: quieter, more even temperatures, better humidity control in monsoon season, lower summer bills. This is the biggest real difference in comfort.
  • Build and sound. Heavier cabinets and compressor blankets on premium lines.
  • Controls. Communicating thermostats on top tiers.
  • Warranty. Most brands offer 10 years on parts if registered. Some premium lines add a longer compressor warranty. Labor comes from the installer either way.

What doesn't change with brand

  • The things that fail first in Phoenix heat (capacitors, contactors, fan motors) fail on every brand.
  • A correctly sized, correctly charged system with clean coils outlasts a premium unit installed badly.
  • The load calculation, line set and ducts matter more than the logo.

That's why two quotes for the same Trane can be $5,000 apart. Compare installers on the same tier first, then compare brands.

Model numbers and part numbers

If you're searching a specific model number from your data plate, the size is usually in it: 24 = 2 ton, 36 = 3 ton, 48 = 4 ton, 60 = 5 ton. Old model numbers often won't have a direct current replacement; the matched equivalent is what matters. We'll look it up for you. And if you're pricing equipment online, read unit price vs. installed price first.

Rebates

SRP Cool Cash is per ton on AHRI-matched 15.2+ SEER2 systems: $75 single-stage, $150 two-stage, $225 variable-speed. It applies to every brand on this page. Rebate details.
