The 2026 American Standard lineup
Current systems use R-454B refrigerant (the 2025 replacement for R-410A; more in R-410A vs. R-454B).

So what does a 3.5 ton American Standard cost?
For a 3.5 ton split system in the Phoenix area in 2026: about $9,000 to $12,000 for Silver, $11,000 to $14,000 for Gold and $12,500 to $16,500 for Platinum, before the SRP rebate. A 3.5 ton heat pump runs about $500 to $1,000 more at each tier.
What the extra money buys
- Silver (single-stage). On or off at full speed. Reliable, simple, cheapest to repair. Fine for a rental or a house you'll sell in a few years.
- Gold (multi-speed). Runs on a lower speed most of the year. Fewer starts, quieter, steadier temperatures, better at pulling monsoon humidity. The upgrade most families notice.
- Platinum (variable-speed). Ramps in small steps to match the load. Quietest, most even, lowest summer bills, and the top SRP rebate. More expensive inverter repairs down the road.
The jump from Silver to Gold is where most homeowners feel the difference. The jump to Platinum pays off most in big homes, two-story homes with a hot upstairs, and people home all day in summer.
SRP Cool Cash by tier
SRP pays per ton on AHRI-matched systems at 15.2 SEER2 or higher, installed before April 30, 2027: $75 single-stage, $150 two-stage, $225 variable-speed. On a 4 ton Platinum that's $900 back. Silver 14 doesn't qualify. APS customers: the APS rebate ended. Full rebate details.
Warranty: register it or lose it
American Standard's 10-year parts limited warranty requires registration within 60 days of install, and the top lines carry a longer compressor warranty when registered. Unregistered, it drops to the base warranty. We register every system we install. Labor warranty comes from the installer, so ask for it in writing.
American Standard vs. Trane
Same company (Trane Technologies), same factories, close-sibling models. Silver 14 lines up with the Trane XR14, Gold with the XL series, Platinum 20 with the XV20i. The difference is the dealer network and price. If you've been quoted a Trane, ask for the American Standard equivalent. More: American Standard vs. Trane and Goodman vs. Trane vs. Bosch.
What changes the price on your house
- Split vs. rooftop package unit, and whether a crane is needed
- Attic air handler access in 150°F+ summer attics
- Ductwork or return upgrades if the size goes up
- Electrical, pad or line set replacement
- Thermostat: a basic programmable vs. the communicating control on Platinum
A quote that skips the load calculation and just copies the old tonnage is worth a free second opinion.
