The age range is the story. A house built in 1976 and a house built in 1997 are on the same street, and their systems are different animals.

• '70s and early '80s homes. Most are on their second or third system. The ones that haven't been replaced in a while are often still R-22, and an R-22 leak is usually a replacement conversation, not a recharge.

• Additions and converted garages. Rooms that were never on the original duct design run hot. Sometimes a duct fix, sometimes a mini-split.
